Every year just after the clocks go back my shop is inundated with patients who realise there eye sight has changed. They find that they are struggling to see whilst driving home in the dark.
If your prescription is out of date or you’re due for an eye test now, I would advise booking in with your optician before the clocks go back.
Driving in the dark and usually in the rain can be quite treacherous especially with an out of date prescription.
Here are few pointers that will help whilst driving at night.
Book in for an eye test at your local opticians.
If you require new glasses consider an anti reflective coating. An anti reflective coating reduces glare from street lamps car headlights etc.
Spex4less customers can take advantage of a free anti reflective coating.
Simply select the lens coating as “Clear” and then in the additional information box during the checkout stage simply enter MAR438 and we will automatically upgrade your lenses to anti reflective.
Ensure that your windscreen is clean and that there’s plenty of washer fluid in your car.
Simply by thinking ahead can ensure that you’ve got crystal clear vision before the clocks go back this winter.

Are there any special lenses for night driving other than anti-reflective. I have anti reflective, but this is not really sufficient for oncoming headlights.
I am just having a new test next week so will be in touch.

Hi Mark, being a Road Safety Consultant I agree a 150% with your recommendation in having a anti reflective coating on your glasses which I did not order because I did not know how good your company was in delivering my pair of glasses according to my prescription and on time. Well done and continue with your exellent work.

good comments and timely.
Is there a market for people who do not need glasses for driving(just reading, etc) , but still want to look after their eyes with good plain lenses with coatings , just for driving , reducing dazzle , etc ?

Please unsuscribe me immediately or I will take legal action as there seem to be no facilities to do this on your website

Very sensible article: I usually have bifocals but have a pair of single long distance specs for driving. A tip: if you need to focus far away, especially if you’re getting older and eye muscles are slowing down in their reactions, glance in the rear view mirror even more frequently than usual: this helps to keep your vision adjusted to long distances.
Small niggle: grammar: it is “their eye sight” that changes , “there” refers to a place!!!!

I purchased a pair of night spectacles from local optitian autumn 2007 with his prescription, but they did not appear to have any coating on them, certainly not tinted - I asked especially for night driving, as I can see long distances perfectly during daylight When I used them on the motorway, country lanes and town I was still dazzled by car headlights, etc The glasses do not appear to have any coating on them
I am concerned that if I order a pair from you, they too might not work for me - would you refund if that is the case You have my subscription which was sent to you for my reading glasses - which are perfect!!! Thanks

“Jane” (9 OCT 08) mentioned ONE grammatical error in your company’s prose, but I saw many more today (yes, I’m wearing your company’s spectacles!). There were also several typographical errors. Can you provide ‘proof-reader’ spectacles to your marketing folk?
However, I concur the safety sense pertaining to sight tests, prescriptions and ‘night-driving’ spectacles for the coming autumn and winter seasons. I will book an optical test in Elgin during next week, then contact you again.

Anti-relective coats I have had applied to glasses seem to scratch smudge or “speckle”easily
What are the advantages of this coating over a clear lens.
How is this coating applied…is it applied to the lens or mixed in the glass when fabricated?
Would welcome your comments on this subject
Thanks

This is a matter that needs to be addressed as it is a problem that confronts most motorists as condensation strikes once more, which makes seeing even difficult and reflections off wet roads do too!

Your website does not allow me to order my high prescription +8.00 & 7.50, in 1.74 thinner lenses, phoning your helpline number also proved fruitless, as the person I spoke with said my prescription was too high. Your sales pitch of being able to beat the High St retailers, would only be true if you can provide the product. Every one of the High St retailers can provide 1.74 lenses for my prescription. Costco Warehouse current supply and fit these lenses for £119.00, you should clearly state that you are unable to supply lenses for this large section of the market.

Dear Michael
Thank you. I appreciate your frustration. We can supply these lenses, just not via the internet.
I’m afraid our governing body the GOC would frown upon me supplying prescriptiong this high without a face to face fitting. However, if you are passing through bolton please feel free to pop in to our shop where we can supply your prescription.
