When I asked her how she had come by this she told me it was because of her contant use of glasses. Naturally I asked her if she had ever tried contact lenses. We where discussing eye's and safety goggles (this chap should have been wearing them for the job he was doing and was not. I happened to be the project manager on a major contract in the city of London (Midland Bank Group Treasury) at that time). Obviously I stopped him and told him to get the goggles and wear them as it is not optional. I then showed him the damage I sustained to my left eye from accident many years before that resulted in a perforated cornea, 4 stiches and around 1/3 of the iris incised( very, very luckey not to have lost the eye through infection. However, to cut the long storey, the chap seemed interested and was taking notice but then related to me an occasion where a friend, relation or whoever underwent eye surgery and the eye was removed from the socket and was hanging down on his cheek to enable good access to the area of the eye they needed. I told him the nature does not provide you with an elesticated optic nerve or even a coiled one like a telephone cable the only way the eye is removed is when it's not going back and then replaced with a false one. There was insistance that this procedure did take place with his friend so I said " Do you want to bet on it say £20" "double it if you like because I can get hold of my friend now and he will tell you." I told him the only way to settle this is to speak with the experts, I told him about Moorefields eye hospital and it's famous reputation and I would ring them to get the answer and he agreed needless to say I ended up £40 better off.
